Retailers are facing into a bleak Christmas season, with new figures showing that sales fell by 9 per cent in the third quarter of the year.

Retailers are facing into a bleak Christmas season, with new figures showing that sales fell by 9 per cent in the third quarter of the year.

September was the worst month in recent memory for retail sales, with some sectors, including homeware and menswear, showing falls of more than 10 per cent. The Retail Excellence Ireland/CBRE Irish Retail Performance Index recorded a reduction in business for the second quarter running.
