Sales of wine suffered their first slowdown in more than a decade last year. New figures from the Wine Development Board showed wine sales grew by less than 4 per cent last year, down from a 14 per cent increase in 2004.
Total wine sales hit 7.8 million cases, or more than 90million bottles, which meant the market was worth more than €1 billion for the second year in a row.
