Wine: A Port-al to the past

Wine is a living entity, and drinking it is the closest we can get to a taste of immortality, writes Tomás Clancy.

A few weeks ago, I got a bit of a surprise. A small wooden box bearing the date 1863.

It was the most surprising package to arrive at The Sunday Business Post wine enclosure for a decade – maybe ever.

Inside a small wooden box was a sealed glass test tube. In it was a message from the past – from 1863, to be exact. The message it contained was 10ml of Taylors, Single Harvest Port, 1863.
