Microsoft is advising users of the Windows XP operating system to avoid making any online purchases after support for the system ends on Tuesday.

''Avoid making any e-commerce or banking transactions from a PC that's unsupported. Avoid doing any transactions from a XP device. It's good risk mitigation to do any financial transactions from a device that is supported, Patrick Ward, Microsoft Ireland's Windows business group lead, told *The Sunday Business Post*.
