The government is coming under pressure from the wind energy sector to remove a major barrier to locating controversial wind turbines close to homes.
National wind energy guidelines state that turbines are "not favoured" within 500 metres of a residential property because of noise concerns. The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA), the main lobby group representing wind energy firms, has written to environment minister Phil Hogan in recent days asking the government to scrap the guideline.
