White House turmoil on Iran intelligence

The Bush administration is once again in the midst of a maelstrom over whether it is using dubious intelligence as a pretext for war in the Middle East.

But this time the question revolves around Iran, not Iraq. The White House looked to be in disarray for much of last week as it tried to iron out conflicting assessments of the degree to which Iran is aiding attacks on American troops in Iraq. The bigger question of whether the US is inclining towards war with Iran was also repeatedly raised by reporters, to the evident exasperation of the administration.
