Where next for medical card holders?

The government has introduced a temporary suspension of medical card reviews.

Who will benefit?

The government is only suspending reviews of discretionary medical cards, so the move will benefit the 50,000 people with these cards. This figure has fallen from 80,000 in December 2010. At one point, 1,000 people were losing their cards each month. However, the HSE will continue to review the majority of cards to ensure people are within the income guidelines for eligibility.
