Here's a beginners' guide to budget tablets - what to look for, and what to avoid, writes Adrian Weckler.

It will come as a nasty surprise to many, but most sub-€200 Android tablets available in Irish shops do not have Google's Play Store (where you download apps for the machine) pre-loaded. That includes CnM's Touchpad 7, which costs €150 from Argos. It also includes the otherwise impressive Nabi 2. And most of the Scroll range available from Peats.
All of these devices have good specifications for the price - but no Google Play...
