The future of Nissan’s €2.2 million sponsorship of the Irish Open golf championship is in doubt after the tournament was again poorly attended.

The Open, which is being staged at Carton House in Maynooth in Co Kildare again this year, has been affected by bad weather for the second time in a row.

The adverse weather conditions disrupted play and discouraged spectators from attending the competition, which carries a first prize of €366,660.
