Business insurance costs have risen by a third over the past two years, according to the 2004 national survey of business costs, to be published shortly by the Irish Business and Employers' Confederation (Ibec). This was more than five times the rate of inflation in the same period.

High insurance costs have seriously undermined the ability of Irish companies to compete in international markets, according to Ibec.
