Warning as ransom-based cyber threats increase in Ireland

Irish SMEs are increasingly coming under threat from ransom-based attacks. The perpetrators are using firms’ own security systems against them to prevent access to critical documents.

The attacks, known as CryptoLocker, use standard means to gain access to company information. Traditional social engineering schemes, such as emails with phoney links, are used to plant the seed of an attack.
