VW Proton deal near completion

At the time of going to press, final talks are expected between Volkswagen and Malaysia prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badwawi which will see the German company entering an alliance with local car manufacturer Proton.

The deal will benefit both sides. Proton’s market performance has been falling; last year the company recorded a loss of $80 million.
