The Golf was best-selling car in Europe in August and Volkswagen the leading brand, both by a considerable margin.

The Golf VI notched up 37,662 sales, followed by the Ford Fiesta with 21,648 units. The other top five places went to the Opel Corsa with 19,818 units, the Peugeot 207with 18,735 and the Renault Clio with 17,618.

Overall manufacturer sales in August were VW 104,589 cars, Ford 62,762, Opel 56,894, Renault 56,661 and Peugeot 55,769 units.
