Sales of SUVs are down 30 per cent in the US, and it's only a matter of time before that trend, which Ireland is still bucking, arrives here.

It's the economy, dude, or rather the lack of it. The problem when you're hauling all those extra underpinnings around is that they weigh a lot. A thrifty diesel embedded in a big SUV can struggle to return 30mpg, and then it just feels all agricultural and underpowered.
