Venue owners tune in and cash out

The rockers might have brought in the crowds this weekend, but it was the owners of the concert venues who laughed all the way to the bank.

The GAA, the IRFU and the RDS earned almost €4 million in rent from staging five concerts in Dublin this weekend. The gigs were attended by more than 265,000 people. The three bodies took a cut of between 15 per cent and 18 per cent of gate receipts for each concert, under an agreement reached with concert promoters MCD and Aiken Promotions. They also generated significant revenue from corporate facilities and food and beverage sales.
