It should be a red-letter day for deltiologists - the Seamus Kearns Collection of over 100,000 postcards will go under the hammer at Whytes on January 26, with estimates ranging from €50-€3,000.
A huge loss to posterity is the decline of the picture postcard as a means of communication. One of the few things the Chinese didn’t invent, it first appeared in Philadelphia, the brainchild of John P Fairchild in 1861.
