Varadkar refuses to support semi-state pension funds

Transport minister Leo Varadkar has ruled out any state involvement in funding the deficit in semi-state pension funds.

Transport minister Leo Varadkar has ruled out any state involvement in funding the deficit in semi-state pension funds, or using any of the proceeds from the sale of companies for this purpose.

Speaking in the Dáil last week on questions about the deficits in the pension funds of companies such as Aer Lingus, Varadkar was emphatic. "There is no question of the taxpayer funding this deficit," he said.
