Transport minister Leo Varadkar is to meet the President of the District Court as part of his campaign to stop the use of the court poor box for speeding offences.
Last year, 1,754 drivers escaped penalty points and a conviction after making a poor-box contribution. This is despite the fact that judges were banned from using the poor box in road traffic legislation four years ago.
