The Greek people are facing harsher austerity as a consequence of not paying debt - a route Ireland must avoid, transport minister Leo Varadkar told a conference last night.

Addressing the Irish Road Haulage Association conference in Clare last night, Varadkar warned that, although some commentators admired countries that did not pay their debt, it was worse for them in the long term.
