While Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) had plenty to celebrate after last week’s Assembly elections, their two respective rivals - the SDLP and UUP - were left to contemplate what the future holds for them.

The biggest losers were Reg Empey’s Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), whose performance was nothing short of catastrophic.

After its trouncing in the 2005 Westminster elections, this contest was about ensuring no further slippage....
