UTV to launch new Irish TV channel

UTV is to launch a new Irish TV channel which will create more than 100 new jobs, it said this morning. The channel will air Coronation Street, currently an audience puller for TV3.

UTV said the new channel will make a profit in 2016.

UTV is to launch a new Irish TV channel which will create more than 100 new jobs, it said this morning.

The new station will combine “high quality news, current affairs, entertainment and drama”, the company said.

Parent company UTV Media said that an application to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) for a content provision contract will be submitted today by its subsidiary UTV Ireland Limited.
