A potential rainbow coalition of Fine Gael, Labour and the Green Party would face serious division on the use of Shannon Airport by US troops, which is increasing after months of declining numbers.

Fine Gael supports the use of Shannon by U S troops, while the Green Party has promised to end the practice if elected to government. The Labour Party has refused to clarify its position.
