U.S. stocks slumped, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index down for a fourth day.

U.S. stocks slumped, sending the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index down for a fourth day.

The falls were linked to the fact that more Americans than forecast filed jobless claims last week, adding to concern over global economic growth.
