US retail sales growth slowed down in April, with American consumers doing less online shopping and cutting back on purchases of furniture and electronics.

Retail sales rose just 0.1 per cent last month, the Commerce Department said on Tuesday morning. The figures follow a surge of 1.5 per cent in March following a harsh winter which had hindered shoppers.
