O’Malley Construction, a Galway building firm, is laying off up to 60 workers before Christmas.

The first layoffs took place on Friday; more blocklayers, manual labourers, drivers and technical staff will be given notice over the next six to eight weeks. The firm has about 140 staff, but expects to lay off a mixture of staff and sub-contracted employees.
