Trade unions at Aer Lingus are seeking legal advice about whether a special €104 million supplementary pension fund promised from the proceeds of the airline’s flotation can be used to block a takeover by Ryanair.
About €100 million will be needed to buy a blocking stake of 6 per cent that would scupper the takeover plans.
