Unionist battles begin within

The unionist parties must stop their in-fighting and begin battling where it matters most – on the election trail, writes Brian Feeney in Belfast

Accusations of defamation, lies, libel. The writs are flying already in the North, such is the animosity among unionist candidates for the election on May 6 - and the nominations for candidates don’t even close until Tuesday.

This election is a critical one for Peter Robinson and Reg Empey, the leaders of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) respectively.

A bad result for either is likely to be followed...
