Tomorrow week, trade unions are scheduled to stage a one-day strike in protest - says the Irish Congress for Trade Unions - at ‘‘the government’s handling of the economic crisis’’. This is misleading. The unions, dominated as they are by public sector interests, are actually annoyed at the government’s pension levy, which compelled public servants to pay a small fraction of the cost of their pensions.
