Gay Mitchell’s stunning success at yesterday’s Fine Gael presidential candidate convention sets the Dublin MEP up as the new favourite in the race for Aras an Uachtaráin.

Mitchell won on the second count yesterday. Pat Cox was first to be eliminated, and Mitchell emerged with 55 per cent of the vote.
