Unemployment unchanged but long term claimants rise

The standardised rate of unemployment rate remained unchanged in January 2013 compared to the previous month at 14.6 per cent, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The standardised rate of unemployment rate remained unchanged in January 2013 compared to the previous month at 14.6 per cent, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, a different measure of joblessness, from the most recent Quarterly National Household Survey was 14.8 per cent in the third quarter of 2012. On a seasonally adjusted basis the Live Register total recorded a monthly decrease of 900 in January 2013, bringing the seasonally adjusted total to 430,100.
