Unemployment falls slightly in January

UPDATE: The rate of unemployment fell to 14.2 per cent in January from 14.3 per cent in the previous month, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed today.

The rate of unemployment fell to 14.2 per cent in January from 14.3 per cent in the previous month, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed today.

This is the lowest unemployment level since June, although unemployment did average at 14.2 per cent last year. The total number of people on the unemployment register was 439,589, a fall of 3,200 or 0.7 per cent since December, according to the CSO.
