The governing authority of University College Dublin has voted unanimously in favour of allowing the university greater intellectual property (IP) rights over the research carried out by its academics.
This will help to clear the way for an earlier decision to commercialise research by staff and students.
AUCD spokesman said the new policy would be similar to those operating in other Irish universities.
