TV3 complaint against RTE set to be dismissed

The European Commission is set to dismiss a complaint by TV3 against the government for providing illegal state aid to RTE.

The European Commission is set to dismiss a complaint by TV3 against the government for providing illegal state aid to RTE.

However, the government may have to seek the permission of Brussels to continue its subsidy to TG4, according to informed sources.

TV3 had complained to the European Commission that the state broadcaster was using its licence fee income for unfair commercial advantage, rather than to fulfill its public service obligations.
