Of all the revisionism of Irish history undertaken since at least the 1960s, surely the most audacious must be that of Tom Reilly, the Drogheda author of Cromwell, an Honourable Enemy.

Reilly continues to be vocal against the large tribe of Irish historians who dismiss his assertions that Cromwell’s behaviour in Ireland was well intentioned and honourable.

Most countries like their ogres cut and dried - and even annually roasted, like Guy Fawkes...
