Turnover at booksellers Hughes & Hughes rose by more than 18 per cent to €28.8 million last year, but the firm’s profits fell.
It made a pre-tax profit of €710,000 in the year to the end of February 2006, down from €910,360 in 2005.
The low return at the Irish book chain may be attributed to an increasingly competitive market and its re-investment in rapid expansion.
