Turkish EU membership could be the final straw

Seemingly oblivious to public opinion across the European Union, the leaders of the 25 countries went ahead last week in Luxembourg and began the process for Turkish membership. It was a very strange occasion, as meetings of EU leaders have often become.

In the beginning, Austria was the only one raising any opposition, but it was eventually bought off by the advancement of Croatia's claims for membership.
