Toughest budget takes its toll on taxpayers

While last Tuesday’s budget hit middle income earners, the government will be looking for more over the next few years

Last Tuesday, Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan announced details of the toughest budget in living memory.

Prior to him taking to his feet, there were many who predicted that taxpayers would face the brunt of this emergency budget - they were proven correct as he announced a variety of measures that focused more on revenue raising and less on reducing public spending.

It is clear that this budget will significantly reduce most people’s disposable income....
