CRH posted a 2 per cent rise in like-for-like sales to the end of April.

Building materials group CRH said its sales rose by two per cent in the four months to the end of April but earnings lagged 2011 due to the tough start in its European operations.

CRH delivered this update on the day of its annual general meeting.

The company also announced the retirement, as planned, of its chairman Kieran McGowan and his replacement by Nicky Hartery.
