Libya's interim government has moved to dispel fears that Baghdadi al-Mahmudi, the country's prime minister under Muammar Gaddafi's regime, could face human rights abuses if he is extradited from Tunisia.

Human rights groups have warned that al-Mahmudi's life would be in danger if the Tunisian authorities sent him back to Libya, as the interim government has not yet brought the country's splintered security forces under control.
