Top Department of Finance official resigns

UPDATE: John Moran, Secretary General at the Department of Finance, has resigned. It is understood that Moran will remain in his current role for a number of months until a successor is appointed.

John Moran, Secretary General at the Department of Finance, has resigned.

In a statement, Finance Minister Michael Noonan said he had accepted the letter of resignation from Moran "with great regret".

"Since John first joined the Department of Finance on secondment from the Central Bank he played a leading role in recapitalising the banking sector and restoring the economy at a very difficult time," Noonan said.
