In one regard, gardening is very like cooking. You wouldn't try to beat eggs with a knife, or cut up onions with scissors, so it follows that the first buying trip of your garden odyssey should start not in the plant area of the garden centre, but in the hardware section. Good results are all down to the soil, and you need the right tools for the job.
