Tools of the garden trade
Back in the dark ages, when my grandparents moved from a city apartment to a suburban house with a garden, they bought a basic manual lawnmower, a pair of shears for the privet hedge, and a set of sturdy gardening tools.
Seeds apart, that was the sum total of their gardening purchases over three decades.
By the time I came along, the tools were all pretty well worn, but it wouldn’t have occurred to them to replace them with something newer and smarter. What they would make of today’s vast array of gadgets and gizmos, heaven alone knows.
