'Tis the season to be savvy

Just because you may be in a panic to buy gifts at the last minute doesn't mean you shouldn't know your rights, writes Emma Kennedy, Personal Finance Correspondent.

Figures from the latest Deloitte Christmas spending survey revealed that Irish consumers remained Europe's biggest festive spenders this year.

The annual survey estimated that the average Irish household would spend €965.80 this Christmas, with just under €500 of that being spent on gifts - 2.2 per cent less than last year.

Almost half of those surveyed said they would buy more products and gifts on sale.
