Threat from drug trade knows no borders

The greatest security threat faced by the nations of the world comes not from terrorism or political crises, but from international drug gangs

Two drug stories have dominated the news this week, one in Jamaica, the other in Europe.

Both highlight the crisis levels the illicit global drug industry now poses to society. In Jamaica, for most of the past week, large sections of the capital, Kingston, have been under siege.

Buildings were burning, gun-battles have emptied the streets and such has been the threat that Kingston’s international airport has had to be shut down.
