Financial markets are heading into a tricky few weeks starting tomorrow as a series of potential trigger points for volatility loom on the calendar.

After a relatively benign summer - in comparison with the rollercoaster rides of 2011 and 2012 - equity markets are near all-time highs and economic indicators in much of the developed world are more positive than negative.

But investors are about to find out whether they can cope with change and uncertainty again...
