Krapp's Last Tape is the closest that Samuel Beckett ever got to writing an autobiography and the highest compliment that can be paid to this gripping Gate production is that it often feels like watching the great man himself. With his deeply lined face and ruffled white hair, John Hurt's physical resemblance to the author is striking enough, but it's his formidable stage presence that makes this one-act meditation on mortality...
