The Who are past masters at the art of the concept album - Tommy, Quadrophenia, A Quick One - but they are seriously pushing their luck with this effort. Endless Wire - all 19 tracks of it - is apparently based on, believe it or not, the Beslan massacre in Russia in 2004.

The good news is that Endless Wire is nowhere near as putrid as Psychoderelict, Pete Townshend’s dire solo album from 1993. The bad news...
