Gardai are facing cuts in allowances and overtime due to a €29 million savings target in the Haddington road review.

The review, which has been delayed by eight months, is going to examine 108 different garda allowances, including the uniform allowance and boot allowance. gardai also get a tax-free rent allowance of over €4,000 per year even if they own their own home, although it has been abolished for new recruits.
