We are a people who seem to pride ourselves on getting one over on 'the man'.

I have two friends who have brothers who are gardaí. Down through the years, both of them have regularly bragged about how their big brothers could get them out of various spots of bother. It was never anything "serious" - a cancelled fine, a speeding notice going astray in the post, last-minute forms getting stamped.
