Liverpool’s European collapse will be costly

The Champions League group stages are over and, with the odd exception, the cream has risen to the top. But that didn’t prevent one or two surprises along the way.

The biggest surprise has to be the almost complete collapse of Liverpool, resulting in the ignominy of their taking part in the Europa League come February, but some so-called ‘minnows’ also raised an eyebrow or two.
